Matkajuht is a company arranging outdoor adventures, one of them taking you to the “Atlantis of Estonia”, the sunken Rummu quarry.
The former quarry lies 45 kilometres and 45 minutes southwest from Tallinn. During the Soviet years, the inmates of the nearby Murru prison mined limestone at the Rummu quarry. At the beginning of the 1990s, the quarry was closed, and the rising groundwater quickly sunk its buildings, machines and barbed wire fences, turning its trees and bushes into an underwater forest.
Matkajuht takes you on an after-dark boat trip on Rummu Lake, where the ruins of the quarry are hidden. Explore the surroundings on a lit raft, and experience the underwater secrets in a spooky way. The boat trips take place from April until October.
Transportation from Tallinn to Rummu and back can be arranged when booked in advance.
