Paekalda Holiday Resort lies next to Rummu Lake, the “Atlantis of Estonia”, 45 kilometres and 45 minutes southwest from Tallinn.
During the Soviet years, the inmates of the nearby Murru prison mined limestone at the Rummu quarry. At the beginning of the 1990s, the quarry was closed, and the rising groundwater quickly sunk its buildings, machines and barbed wire fences, turning its trees and bushes into an underwater forest.
Paekalda Holiday Resort organises plenty of fun summer activities on Rummu Lake. Dive or snorkel in its crystal clear water, admiring the sunken ruins with a professional guide, or take a memorable trip on a canoe, boat or raft. If you want to stay overnight, why not sleep in a cottage-like floating barrel.
Transportation from Tallinn to Rummu and back can be arranged when booked in advance.
