Naissaar is the largest (18 km2) forest-covered island in northern Estonia in the Gulf of Finland, 10 km north of Tallinn. Over the last 300 years, different governments have built forts on the eastern and western side of the island of Naissaar and the inhabitants of the fishing villages have had to leave.
Nowadays, Naissaar is known primarily for its beautiful sandy beaches, hiking trails, military heritage, and the Nargenfestiv Festival taking place in the summer. In the summer, you can regularly get from Tallinn to Naissaar from Kalasadam Harbour.
