    Hellemann Tower and Town Wall

Today, Hellemann Tower at the end of Müürivahe street is home to an art gallery and an inn. The nearly 200-metre-long old defence wall is also open to the visitors which connect Hellemann Tower with Munkadetagune Tower. Visitors can look out from the wall and view the city of Tallinn.

Climbing up the steep stairs, you will arrive at the attic, which opens up as a viewing platform, so is definitely worth taking a walk along the defensive walls.
Hellemann Tower is said to be named after Helle Holleman, a citizen of Tallinn who lived nearby. In the Middle Ages, the strategic location of the tower, in the immediate vicinity of the Viru Gate, played an important role.

4 euros for entry. Spiral steps to go up to the platform. The pavement on the platform is either wooden planks or concrete, and they can be slippery during wet weather or snow. There are stairs... Read more comments
